Jennifer Thompson, DVM grew up just south of Madison, WI and has been involved in horses since she started taking riding lessons as a young girl. Through her grass roots start in local 4-H and Pony Club, to competing in Young Riders Eventing she had always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. That dream led to her graduation from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. After graduation she completed an intense year long internship in equine medicine, surgery and reproduction at The Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital. From there she joined a local practice until she opened her own practice in 2012.
Dr. Thompson enjoys all aspects of equine practice, from caring for a backyard friend to assisting with the performance management of a finely tuned show horse. She appreciates the many varied challenges of equine care, from lameness exams to the delicate intricacies of the equine eye. She knows the importance of teaming with farriers to return our equine friends to soundness and comfort as quickly as possible. Dr. Thompson has taken supplementary courses in equine dentisty and understands how a properly balanced mouth can affect overall performance in the horse. At the end of the day, educating and helping owners care for their horses is what gives her the greatest pleasure.
Outside of practice, Dr. Thompson enjoys working with and showing her own horses, spending time with her dogs, kayaking, reading, downhill skiing, and volunteering with the National Ski Patrol.
